Lyne Renee Upped to Series Regular

“Motherland: Fort Salem,” Freeform’s fierce genre thriller, has been picked up for a second season and Lyne Renee (General Alder) has been upped to series regular. The series is set in an alternate, present-day America where witches ended their persecution over 300 years ago by cutting a deal with the U.S. government to fight for their country with supernatural tactics and weapons. The series stars Taylor Hickson, Jessica Sutton, Ashley Nicole Williams, Amalia Holm, Demetria McKinney and Lyne Renee. “Motherland: Fort Salem” is written and created by Eliot Laurence, with Laurence, Will Ferrell, Adam McKay and Kevin Messick as executive producers. Steven Adelson, Erin Maher, Kay Reindl and Bryan Q. Miller will also serve as executive producers on the series.

“I could not be more grateful for the chance to keep exploring the world of ‘Motherland: Fort Salem,’” said Laurence. “Freeform has been such a fabulous home for us through the development process, production, post and marketing. I’m also blown away by the love we’ve gotten from our fans, whose excitement and passion played a massive part in this renewal. Thank you, witches!”

Pop-Culturalist Interviews Kai!

Kai is on a role with interviews as of late as he tackles another interview discussing his latest role as Gerit Buttonwood in Motherland: Fort Salem. You can read the entire interview below.

Actor Kai Bradbury is a man on a mission. Having grown up surrounded by the arts, Kai credits his exposure to different mediums for helping him develop his voice as an individual and as a creative. And as Hollywood makes inroads towards greater representation, Kai hopes to do his part by paving the way for the next generation of up-and-comers of mixed race or Asian descent with projects like Motherland: Fort Salem.

Set in an alternate America where witches ended their persecution three hundred years ago by cutting an agreement to fight for their government, Motherland: Fort Salem follows three recruits who go from basic training in combat magic to early deployment. Kai’s character, Gerit Buttonwood, is the “object of desire” for one of those recruits. It’s a role that means not only a great deal to Kai but also to a community who wants to see themselves properly represented on screen.

Pop-Culturalist caught up with this rising star to chat about all things Motherland: Fort Salem.

While women awesomely take front and center on Motherland, there are characters of the male persuasion present. One of these guys is Gerit, played by Canadian Kai Bradbury

This season Gerit and Tally quickly sparked a connection that beautifully came to life in episode four at the celebration known as Beltane. Then real life intruded in a big way. Tally found out Gerit’s engaged — it’s an arranged situation — but this was definitely a blow. However, the two have reunited despite the less-than-ideal circumstances. Who knows how long they can keep their reconnected relationship on the down low.

TV Goodness recently sent a few questions over to Bradbury, who answered via email. The Japanese and Scottish actor talks about Motherland, his character’s relationship with Tally, and he gives us the rundown of some of his most significant professional experiences to date.
